HISTORY OF THE PENSACOLA CHAPTER OF THE LINKS, INC.

A group of dedicated and civic-minded ladies under the name of WIKS, succeeded with deliberation and planning in becoming affiliated with The Links, Incorporated.  The New Orleans Assembly approved the establishment of a Pensacola Chapter of the Links, Inc, which was chartered November 25, 1972.  Links Exie B. Goode and Rose A. Hicks were the chapter organizers.  They had been attending Links meetings each month in Tallahassee for several years.

 

The charter members were: Dolores B. Albury, Lois W. Anderson, Gladys Brown, Jewell Broxton Cartledge, Exie B. Goode, Sarah W. Haynes, Rose A. Hicks, Dorothy H. McCray, Elsie J. Jones, Georgette C. Jones, Corrie Mumford, Gladys H. Oliver, Geraldine C. Scott, Mattie B. Warner, Annie B. Williams and Lois Zaragoza.  The first chapter officers were: Rose A. Hicks, President; Exie B. Goode, Vice President: Dorothy H. McCray, Recording Secretary; Geraldine C. Scott, Corresponding Secretary; Dolores B. Albury, Financial Secretary and Gladys H. Oliver, Treasurer.

 

Our chapter has been served by eleven presidents these forty years:  Rose A. Hicks, Jewell Broxton Cartledge, Sarah W. Haynes, Patience C. Hughes, Dolores B. Albury, Yvonne D. Boyd, Addie June Hall, Laurel W. Boyd, Ella Williams, Lornetta  T. Epps and Evelyn Walker.

 

Through presidential leadership, committee projects, member participation, and community collaboration, our Chapter’s efforts have been to carry out the National mandates through the program facets to meet contemporary challenges in our community, state, country and on an international basis.
