CHILDHOOD OBESITY EPIDEMIC

Between 1986 and 1998, the prevalence of obesity increased 120% among African Americans and currently, 35.9% of African American children ages 2-19 are overweight or obese, compared with 31.7% of all children those ages. Given the childhood obesity epidemic in the African American Community the Southern Area of the Links, Inc. formed the Commission on Childhood Obesity Prevention.
